School and fun!

It's hard to believe it but I only have a little over a month until I am completely done with community college...I will graduate May 10th !  College work has been going well.  I made a 90% on my Economics test and made a 100% on my Sales/Marketing test.  At the moment, I am currently working on an informative speech, I am doing my speech on persuading everyone as to why athletes need a cap on their salary (in other words, not getting such outrageous salaries).  I also have a quiz and paper coming up for an English class but that is not due until next Friday. 

I had a great time this past weekend at the statewide SGA conference (SGA stands for Student Government Association).  Some of my fellow students who are officers and delegates came to the conference (I was a delegate).  There were the usual business meetings and also workshops on things like leadership.  There was also competition between the different community colleges, it was great fun !  My friend and I competed in a ping pong tournament, however we did not get very far in it.  I did not last very long in the log rolling contest or on the mechanical bull either.  I was determined to win a prize by riding on the mechanical bull for at least 30 seconds, but the longest I stayed on was for 24 seconds.  Needless to say I was very sore after doing all of that.  But I did find my area of expertise.....a contest that was set up like the game show Jepordy.  I managed to answer enough questions in order to go stand in this thing with money blowing all around you, lol.  Of course, I grabbed as much as I could, lol.  I won $7, yay!  The hotel we stayed in was very nice, the food was great, and we even had a nice formal dinner on Saturday evening.  We also threw a surprise party for the lady who is in charge of SGA at our college.  As the party was getting started I had a little "accident" with my chair as I was sitting down.   Let's just say that my chair got caught on something as I was slidding back into it.....I ended up flipping backwards in my chair....sigh, I am sure my friends got a good laugh out of that one , so embarassing!  Other than that I had a great time.  I am looking forward to going on a class field trip with some other students who are a part of the student services program like I am.  Tomorrow, we will be going to visit a TV news station, Ripley's Aquarium, and also a college....and of course, we'll stop somewhere nice to eat, lol.  It's a great way to start off our Easter break from community college.!

Goodbye Burger King and Biology!

I'm waving goodbye to Burger King and Biology!  As I mentioned in my previous post, I had been offered a tutoring job at my community college and was thinking/praying about leaving Burger King.  Well it's official, I turned in my two weeks notice to Burger King last week.....my last night of work there will be this Saturday night.  I am relieved to be all done with them as the stress and lack of sleep from working there was interferring with my being able to concentrate on my schoolwork .  I worked there for a year and a half as the drive-thru cashier, it has been quite an experience.  I can definitely say that I have learned a lot about running a business.....both the positive and the negative side of things.  Having been offered the tutoring job, it was time to move on.  I can work as a tutor for the rest of the school year, then move on into my summer job at the Christian camp. What's nice is that I have complete peace about this and how it all works out perfectly.

I'm also waving goodbye to my Biology class.  Inspite of much tutoring and extra studying, I still had not been able to improve my grade in this class.  I did not do any better on last week's Biology test at all ....don't ask what I scored on it.  In order for me to even pass the class, I would have to make "A's" on everything in Biology for the rest of the school year.  And yes, I could pour all of my energy into Biology to accomplish that.  However, the last time I poured all my efforts into one class (Financial Accounting) I passed that class, but it was at the expense of two easy classes that I ended up not doing well in.  I did not care to do that again and risk doing bad in my other classes because of focusing on Biology.  It is a "lost cause", a class I need to try and attempt some other time...just not now when I am aiming for a good G.P.A.  Thankfully dropping Biology is not going to affect anything.  And once again, I have complete peace about saying "goodbye" to Biology, now I can put forth more effort into my other classes.

Checking in....

Hi everybody, Sportsfan finally checking in here, lol.  The past two weeks have been super busy with school, homework, and working.....and it just keeps getting busier.  At community college, I did my informative speech on homeschooling, I think I did alright, I did manage to stay in the time limit ( which is something everyone else had trouble with).  I've also had papers to write and tests to take, with more exams to come next week, so my brain has been getting a workout, lol .  Biology will be my toughest exam, I did not do very well on the previous one.  I have been getting some tutoring for this class so I hope to do better this time around.  Speaking of tutoring, I was offered a tutoring job at the community college I attend.  There are some students needing help in some classes I've had before, so they asked me if I could help.....and I would get paid to do it .  I've already started one tutoring session this past week and will start another one next week.....I'm really excited to be helping out my fellow students. 

I got to finally visit the college I got accepted into for this Fall.  My mom and I drove up there this past Tuesday while I was on Spring Break.  I had a blast!  I got to see some of the campus and visit the hospitality department which has my major......restaurant management.  Later, I went to their campus bookstore where I bought a college hat, then had coffee in the cafe next to the bookstore.  My mom and I then went to the workshops they had for transfer students like me, we got a lot of questions answered there.....and enjoyed the snacks they had laid out for everyone, lol.  I had a really great time there, I loved it!  I am so psyched about attending there this Fall !

While school has been going well, my job at Burger King continues to be a huge pain for me .  I am trying to continue working there until I finish school in about two months, then later move on to my summer camp job.  However, it's been frustrating for me.....just different things causing me aggravation there .  I am thinking about possibly giving them a two-weeks notice and quit working at Burger King a lot sooner. I can't take the stress there and concentrate on my schoolwork at the same time, it's too much.  Now I do have the tutoring job I just started, so it's not like I will lose much in the way of income.  Deinitely something to think and pray about!

Great things happening!

Hi everyone, I've had an interesting time since I last posted an entry.  Last Monday (the 13th),  I had a car accident on the way home from school that night .  Working at Burger King til 3:00 a.m. on the weekends definitely caught up wth me, I was very tired.  I swerved off the road and into a ditch, ended up straddling the ditch.  But God was watching over me .  I was wearing my seatbelt, plus the airbags went off too, so that kept me from getting seriously injured.  A kind person, who was driving behind me at the time, stopped to help me and called 911, even though they were on their way to work.  And, it was a good thing that I was driving less than the speed limit.  The police officer said that, if I had been going the speed limit, I would have ended up hitting the telephone pole.  So thankful for God watching over me......things could have been much worse.

As for me, I got scratched up by some glass, plus my neck and back were sore and stiff.  I had to take some medicine for a few days but I'm doing better now.  My car was totaled, but I was able to get a used car last Saturday (I guess it helps to have some money set aside in savings for such emergencies).  Other good news.......I've been hired to be a camp counselor this summer at a Christian summer camp ! I also got accepted into one of the colleges I applied to  !  Lol, can you tell that I am just a little excited?  I am so looking forward to all of this, so exciting!

School has been going alright for me, but Biology is giving me trouble so I am getting some help with that class.  Valentine's day was nice, we all were given candy, lol, it was great!  We also had a  Quiz Bowl yesterday, students against the teachers, and I was the captain of my team of students.  The questions were on Black History since February is Black History month.  We all were given questions to study for the past couple of weeks and yesterdy was the showdown.  It was kind of set up like a game show with buzzers to push, it was a lot of fun.  In the end, it was the students' team that won....!

Short and Simple

Since I am in the middle of studying for three tests next week, this post will be short and simple, lol.  This past week's schoolwork included putting together my speech outline, filling out two studyguides, turning in my proposal for my Biology experiment, taking a quiz in Argument-based Research, writing a paper for this same class, and also Math homework.  Phew, that's a lot of schoolwork!  Biology was kind of fun the other day when we did lab.....we made homemade bread in the teacher's bread machine , it was a fun way to experiment with yeast!  My Economics class is causing me some confusion  I just don't get the stuff at all, so I will be getting some tutoring for that class.  I might need to get tutoring for Biology too but I will wait and see on that one. 

Other stuff.....my job at Burger King stresses me to no end sometimes, sigh, it's ridiculous what one has to put up with when it comes to irate customers.  I have put in applications at other places, but I haven't heard anything yet. 

As for the college I want to transfer to this Fall, I have already put in two applications at two different colleges.  My first choice of college turned me down and told me I needed one more Math class (College Algebra) to be accepted.....they require this class of their transfer students.  My second choice of college has not answered me back yet, so I am still waiting on an answer from them.

Inspite of my busy week, I did take time watch Duke University beat UNC the other night.  What a game!  Freshman guard Austin Rivers sank a three-pointer at the last minute, lol, I was thrilled!  I am hoping they will win the championship, that remains to be seen.  What a team!
